Psychiatry services
When medication is clinically-indicated as a necessary or helpful support, our psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are the experts parents need. We offer medication consultations, dosage conversations, and overall medication management.
When is medication right?
You’re not the only parent with questions about whether your child needs medication. We’ve got your answers.

We look at medication as just one mental health tool to be used as needed in collaboration with therapy — the decision to include psychiatry services is one made with parents involved.
In most cases, therapy is the first line of treatment, with medication layered on for severe cases or where progress isn’t happening with therapy alone.
In the case of an ADHD diagnosis, medication is often a first-line treatment (alongside therapy).
Even if your child is already in therapy elsewhere, but you are looking for medication management or information on dosage/types of medication, Brightline can help.
What to expect
Our approach to medication follows a biopsychosocial model. Psychiatrists consider the biological (genetics, neurochemistry, physiology), therapists manage the psychological (thoughts, feelings, behaviors), and a child’s social interaction involves their community, family, and relationships. The timing, dosage, and type of medication is highly personal to each child’s situation.
Think of Brightline as your child’s care navigator — we’ll give you all the options and let you know what to expect on each part of the journey, turn by turn, but you, the parents, are in the driver’s seat.
The medication recommendations we make are rooted in evidence and follow professional guidelines from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
We don’t approach medication as being a tool that’s used forever — the goal is to use medication when it’s needed and work towards reducing or eliminating it when possible.
Our internal psychiatry and therapy teams collaborate closely, and we partner with parents, teachers, pediatricians, and other supportive adults in your child’s life as needed.
