Q&A with Dr. McFarlane

What experience do you have working with families?

My experience is deeply rooted in supporting families through complex challenges. I have provided family-oriented psychotherapy, parent-child counseling, and in-home crisis intervention to help strengthen communication and build more positive, resilient relationships.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

My inspiration comes from a long-held passion for helping children navigate difficult circumstances, particularly through creative expression and play. I am dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space where young people and their families can grow and thrive together.

What are your strengths?

My primary strength is my ability to connect with children and adolescents using a blend of evidence-based practice and creative activities like dance and art. I am a warm and collaborative clinician who partners with families to build on their existing strengths and find unique paths to healing.

What else would you like families to know about you?

My approach is grounded in the belief that healing happens when we feel safe to be our authentic selves. As a former dancer, I bring warmth, creativity, and a sense of playfulness to my work. This perspective is also deeply personal; as an eldest sister, aunt, godmother, and dog mom, I have a real-world appreciation for every stage of a family's journey.
