Q&A with Nikki Vega
What experience do you have working with families?
My specialized focus in and after graduate school involved working with couples and families in navigating trauma, identity, and relational challenges. I have worked with families at the LGBT Center, Callen Lorde Community Health Center, and at CASES (working with court-involved families).
What inspired you to become a psychiatric provider?
I became a therapist because I believe deeply in the healing power of relationships and the power of community. I wanted to learn from and work with people working to repair their relationships with themselves and with others.
What are your strengths?
My strengths include building authentic, trusting relationships, approaching therapy from an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens, and aiding in co-regulation during activated moments or crises.
What else would you like families to know about you?
I value collaboration and humor in the therapy room, and I strive to balance warmth with thoughtful challenges that support growth. I am a devoted dog parent and also have 4 chaotic young nephews whom I adore and spoil.
