Here’s what to expect at your appointment

If your appointment is virtual:

  • Make sure you have consistent WiFi connection and are in a private and safe space (for example, you’re not in a moving car or a coffee shop).

  • Not joining a session well past the majority of your scheduled time will be considered a “no-show” occurrence.

  • To join the session, click the Zoom link found in your confirmation email or the Brightline app. We’ll send you the Zoom link about 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

  • NOTE: Clinicians can only hold sessions in states where they’re licensed, so you must be in the state where you live for your virtual session. If you will be out of state during a session, please contact us to reschedule your appointment.

  • Plan to arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the scheduled start of your appointment. This ensures that you have a chance to complete any additional paperwork that your provider may need from you, and that you and your child are comfortably settled in.

  • If you are running late, please call (888) 255-7040 to let us know as soon as possible.

  • At least one caregiver or guardian must attend the first session with the child.

  • Please visit our Brooklyn Heights for directions, parking information, and building details/how to get to our suite

  • Not attending a session well past the majority of your scheduled time will be considered a “no-show” occurrence.

  • We require at least 24 hours notice for cancellations/rescheduling.

  • If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours notice, or if you miss a scheduled appointment (with no notice), you will be responsible for the full cost of that appointment.

  • Diagnostic evaluation: 90 minutes

  • Follow-up session: 60 minutes

  • Ongoing therapy session: 60 minutes

  • Ongoing psychiatry (medication management) session: 30 minutes

  • Medication management check-in: 10–20 minutes

  • Consultation (e.g. moving from therapy to psychiatry): 60 minutes

  • Psychological testing: 4+ hours

No matter what your child is here for, you (as their parent) will be closely involved in their care. The level of involvement depends on a few things: their age and stage, the presenting concerns, and what research tells us works best.

Sometimes, kids meet with their provider and a caregiver checks in for a few minutes. Other times, the caregiver is the one in the session for a longer time.

Your child’s therapist will work with you to find the balance that is right for your family and the goals you have for your child.

If at any time you become concerned about your child’s immediate safety, seek emergency services.

Do not wait for an appointment at Brightline.
